Herts Equipment Rental Ltd was founded in 1977 by Tony & Ann Soanes, supplying plant, tools and equipment to the construction Industry. Their son and daughter, Richard & Jane joined in 1982 & 84 respectively. In July 2000 Herts Equipment set up a construction equipment repair & maintenance company Sitemaster Services Ltd in conjunction with Lets Hire, another like minded family plant & tool hire company owned by Tom & Gina Winfield, & operated by their sons Chris & Robert.

By 2002 both sets of parents were retired, and as a result of the close co-operation and realisation of common goals for future stability, it was agreed that the two companies would merge to form one new company, giving us the platform for managed expansion.

In early 2005 due to increased demand a dedicated specialist traffic management company, Herts Traffic Management Systems Ltd, was set up working from a new depot at Redhill in Surrey.

In February 2007 the company gained ISO accreditation to the National Highways Sector Scheme Unit 12d for the Installation, Maintenance and Removal of Temporary Traffic Management on Rural & Urban Roads, and the Hire of Temporary Traffic Management Systems & Variable Message Boards.

By 2008 traffic management work had grown to the extent that both Herts Equipment at Watford and Herts Traffic at Redhill were servicing the same customers in London & the South East, and in April 2008 it was decided to rationalise operations and Herts Traffic was incorporated into Herts Equipment.

The company has invested heavily in new traffic lights, traffic management equipment and specialist traffic management vehicles. The company now operates over 600 sets of temporary traffic signals. Further expansion in January 2009, with a new traffic management depot which opened at Braintree in Essex and the Redhill depot has relocated to larger dedicated premises at Gatwick in West Sussex as well as Winchester  and Rochester in the years following

The company now services the traffic management needs for a majority of utility companies working in the Gas, Water and Electricity industries within London, South and South East. of  England..
